Music Department Open House - October 8th, 2018

Dear Music Colleague,

I am writing to invite you, your students, and their parents to a Music Department Open House at UW-Whitewater on Monday, October 8th. This is an event designed for talented high school musicians who are considering the possibility of college level music study.

Your students can plan on an interesting and information-packed morning. In addition to meeting our faculty, they’ll hear a presentation on careers in music and options available in various degree programs, specifics about what they can look forward to as a music major at Whitewater, and information on music department scholarships. They’ll get to tour our facilities and have a chance to meet with faculty members from their specific area of interest—one of the best ways to sample college music study. Finally, they have the opportunity to sit in on music classes and rehearsals in the afternoon. A detailed Open House schedule can be found on the music website. The general schedule is as follows:

8:00-8:45 – Registration, check-in, breakfast and mingling (Greenhill Center of the Arts, Atrium)

8:45-9:00 – Welcome (Light Recital Hall)

9:00-9:50 – Student Stories and Preparing for Studying Music at the Collegiate Level OR A Parents Guide for Music Majors: Auditions, Applications, Scholarships and Financial Aid.

10:00 -10:50 – Sit in on a few classes or a rehearsal

11:00 –11:50 –Meet with studio faculty (vocal, brass, percussion, keyboard, strings and woodwinds)

12:00-12:50 – Lunch at Esker Dining Hall (compliments of the Admissions Office)

1:00-1:50—Campus tour

2:00 and later -- Visit/Attend music classes and rehearsals in the afternoon

To register, please visit our website ( While you’re there, please explore our website, which has details on our programs, faculty and facilities, and auditions for the music department. Your students can also register by phone:  just call the Music Department at 1-800-621-8744. Please register by October 1st. You will receive a confirmation by email that includes directions to UW-Whitewater and information regarding parking. You should  plan to arrive between 8:00-8:45 a.m., in order to have a chance to meet faculty informally.

If your students are unable to attend this event, we encourage high school juniors to participate in our Junior Audition Clinic on Friday, April 5, 2019. This event is designed to help students prepare for a successful departmental entrance audition. Seniors that may be considering UW-Whitewater are encouraged to apply to the University and submit an audition application. The 2018-2019 Audition Days are November 10, 2018, February 1, February 16March 1, and April, 19, 2019. Students who wish to be considered for scholarships must audition in November, February, or March.

Thank you in advance for passing the word on to students who are considering college level music study!
